Jean-Michel Smith

Jean-Michel Smith was born in Palo Alto, California and grew up in the American Midwest. His addiction to travel began with a summer job planting pineapples in Hawaii. He widened his travels while studying engineering at the University of Illinois, spending for a semester in Salzburg, Austria, where he learned to speak German. Later he was in Germany for two semesters as part in an exchange program with the Technische Hoschschule Darmstadt. He also had the good fortune of working several summers for Bayer Leverkusen as a Werkstudent (summer intern), further honing his language and IT skills. After graduating with a degree in Computer Science he attended graduate school and went on to work in the financial industry, designing and setting up trading systems in various places around the world. For many years he worked for a hedge fund in Chicago, during which time he wrote his first novel and met his beautiful wife, writer and author Christine Todd. Their journey has since taken them to the other side of the Atlantic, where they enjoy the rich and diverse experiences Europe has to offer.
